'MAYDAY' FROM THE DREAM ACADEMY'S NICK LAIRD-CLOWES:

Just came across this on Nick Laird-Clowes website, looks like it's fairly old news. Click here and you will go to the Guardian website where you can download the song "Mayday", a song from Nick Laird-Clowes (The Dream Academy & Trashmonk) with Pink Floyd's David Gilmour on backing vocals and guitar. Wonder if there is a new Trashmonk album in the works?

SONGS I'M ENJOYING AT THE MOMENT:

Next week I'm off to London for a holiday and to see some concerts, looking forward to the trip. Some songs I'm really enjoying at the moment are:

Crystal Castles with Robert Smith - Not In Love (This cover of the 80's Platinum Blonde hit is my favourite song this week, Smith's vocals fit the song to a tee).

Pet Shop Boys - Together (new single from "Ultimate" hits package)

Joe McElderry - If You Love Me (b-side that is better than anything on his debut album "Wide Awake"

Penguin Prison - Golden Train (The Royal Palms Remix)

Echoes - Ice Cold

Teitur - You Never Leave LA

I Blame Coco - Selfmachine

Gypsy & The Cat - The Piper's Song (Aeroplane Tape Remix)

Strange Talk - Climbing Walls [UK Producer Eliot James (Bloc Party, Two Door Cinema Club) produced this song from new Australian band.]

Far East Movement with FrankMusik - Fighting For Air

Touch Sensitive - Body Stop

Hot Chip. Bernard Sumner & Hot City - Didn't Know What Love Is

Ed Drewett - Champagne Lemonade (Manhattan Clique Club Mix)

THE RETURN OF 'RED BOX' WITH THEIR NEW ALBUM 'PLENTY':

The amazing U.K. band Red Box have returned to the music scene after many years and have just released their new cd 'Plenty' on Cherry Red Records. You may remember them from their previous albums "The Circle & The Square" - 1985 (with the singles 'Lean On Me (ah-li-ayo) and 'For America') and "Motive" - 1990. The Circle & The Square was reissued last year by Cherry Red Pop after being out of print on cd for many many years.

Listening to the samples of the 14 tracks they sound great, more acoustic than you might expect with 'Say What's In Your Head' sounding like a possible single in the future ('Hurricane / Brighter Blue' is the first double-single from the project).

Red Box lead vocalist and songwriter Simon Toulson-Clarke has been working on this release for a while and the band has been performing some low key gigs in the U.K. in recent months. The band hope to put on a CD release gig/party in London in late October/early November.

You can download 'Plenty' from iTunes U.K. and Amazon U.K.. There is a limited edition version of the physical cd that contains 6 bonus tracks of new studio material and it can be ordered from Amazon U.K. along with the regular edition CD. A very small number of signed limited edition cds can be ordered from the Cherry Red website.
